Abstract

The study aimed to identify the assessment conception in the Political-Pedagogical Project of a Municipal Early Childhood Education Center (CEI) in São Paulo. Employing qualitative research and a case study methodology, it explored how preschoolers are assessed, focusing on three aspects: the conception of learning assessment, evaluative activities (instruments), and assessing children in this education stage. Despite being a pedagogical activity endorsed by the National Policy for Early Childhood Education and legal documents, assessment was absent in the CEI's Political-Pedagogical Project. This absence indicates a disconnection between the project and assessment as coordinators of intentions, priorities, and strategies for improving local education quality, particularly in children's individual development.
