Abstract

This article analyzes the legislation on Inclusive Special Education (IES), at the national and municipal levels, as well as its application in the municipality of Sorocaba. The main objective of the study is to verify the applicability of this educational policy in the municipality. Based on a review of the literature and legal documents, this is a theoretical-documentary research, indicating the structural changes in Brazilian IES. The results highlight that in the municipality of Sorocaba, over the last three decades, IES has been applied in the municipal public education network, with substantial social advances for the inclusion of students who are the target audience of special education (PAEE). This verification points out some gaps and difficulties that were identified for the complete applicability of the legislation in the sense of school inclusion.
