Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the aesthetic elements present in the literature developed by deaf women in the northeast region. Through a qualitative and exploratory approach, we analyzed literary works focusing on the theoretical-methodological foundations proposed by Sutton-Spence (2021). The corpus was composed of three poems by female authors from Paraíba that were presented in literary soirées shown on the YouTube, in reference to Northeastern Day. The works deal respectively with the resistance of the Northeastern people; the routine of country people amid the covid-19 pandemic; and the character Maria Bonita. In the analyses, we identified the predominant presence of visual and imagery elements, based on: classifiers, incorporations, non-manual elements, metaphors, aesthetic spatial structures, multiple perspectives, repetition, rhythm and rhyme. By disseminating these findings, we hope to broaden our understanding of the literary aesthetics of deaf female poets from the Northeast and promote greater visibility of deaf culture in the northeastern context, especially from the perspective of deaf women.
