Abstract

This work presents part of the results from a master's level research, in which the analytical corpus consisted of three works by the artist Surdo, Deivid Pereira. The results presented here focus on the verbo-visual work "Violência Contra Mulher" (Violence Against Women), based on the theoretical framework of the Bakhtinian circle. The aim of the research was to analyze the mentioned work, investigating the voices that interact with one another to construct the effects of meaning and presenting the meaning perceived throughout the analytical process. The methodological approach was based on a qualitative method with a documentary technique. It was found that authorial presence manifests in two ways: as author-person, a real individual attentive to society, and as author-creator, a creative agent who transforms his perceptions into artistic expression, generating a dialogue between voices. Polyphony was revealed through the 'deaf' 'I', as a social subject, expressed in the writing of signs, represented by the claim against violence toward women in the image.
